Speaker: Jody Cook, Volunteer Program Specialist for the City of Columbia.

Jody heads up the recycling program for Columbia. She gave some very interesting facts: the United States makes up 4% of the world population, but we create 50% of the waste of the world. We need to make choices to use less and recycle more. Locally, If this does not change, Columbia will need a new landfill by 2026. The low-ball cost for the landfill will be approximately 89 million. Columbia owns their own recycling and waste plants. It seems the biggest problem about recycling is no universal signage and contamination. Her presentation was very enlightening.

Christmas families:

Phyllis Erhardt talked about the three families we will sponsor this year. We receive these names from the Voluntary Action Center. She will have sheets at the November meeting for us to sign up for gifts and money for food vouchers. All items will be due at the December 3rd meeting.

Special note:

Bill Weitkemper is running for 2nd Ward Councilman in April. He needs 50 signatures on his petition to be on the ballot. Please help him by signing up.

Treasurer’s report:

Bill Tetro gave the treasurer’s report. At the end of August the checking account balance was $7120.75.

Salvation Army:

The Salvation Army has requested that we sponsor a kettle or ring the bell at one of the kettles.

Luncheon Club:

The luncheon club has requested a donation of $500.00 for a service dog for a teen in the St. Louis area, whom will be going to college. The motion was made, Aaron Zaner seconded the motion, the motion passed.

Cosmo building:

The money was available in the budget to help with costs of the building during the pandemic. We will pay $100.00 a month for three months to assist. CeCe and Larry Benton paid for the first month.

T-shirts:

T-shirts will be available for the Walktoberfest.

Birthdays:

None of the October birthday people were in attendance.

50/50:

Kay Brejcha won the 50/50. $35.00 went to Kay and $35.00 to the club.
